Dr. Celeste Melamed, Principal Investigator

An interdisciplinary materials scientist by training, Prof. Melamed has a B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College. She completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science at Colorado School of Mines with Prof. Eric Toberer and Dr. Adele Tamboli. Her doctoral work was performed primarily at the National Renewable Energy Lab and synthesized new earth-abundant nitrides and oxynitrides for optoelectronic applications. She then switched gears to study battery materials during a postdoc at Stanford with Prof. William Chueh, where she investigated structure and degradation of garnet oxides for solid-state batteries. In 2025 she moved to Eugene, Oregon to begin her independent career at the UO. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in nature with her family, playing and listening to bluegrass music, and reading books of all kinds.
