Postdoctoral Scholar
I grew up in New Mexico with the privilege of exploring stunning areas from deserts to mountains, and luckily am now in Oregon to continue to do the same. I love to hike, snowboard, hang out with my animals, and probe the molecular world through chemistry/material science.

Rachel Galfo
Ph.D. Student
I am a Floridian in the sense that I grew up watching space shuttle launches from my backyard (and I went to Astronaut high), but Oregon has really captured my heart. I enjoy the beautiful hikes here, hanging out with my amazing fellow grad students, and dancing.

Joe Daddona
Ph.D. Student
I am from Connecticut where I spent ample time camping in the Appalachian region. I now try and get out at least every other weekend into the surrounding Oregon wilderness where there is a new exciting natural feature every direction you turn. Beyond loving nature, I also am fond of community building and ensuring that everyone around me has the necessary tools to succeed personally and professionally.

Sam Thompson
Ph.D. Student
I’m a midwestern boy who grew up in Springfield, OH and fled the corn fields to study Environmental Science and Chemistry at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. Afterwards I spent several eclectic years working as a chemist in various Quality Control positions in industry and teaching English and Science abroad. Afterward, I opted to return to pursue my Masters working on heterojunction synthesis for photocatalysis which reignited my passion for research. When I’m not working in the lab, I love exploring the natural beauty of Oregon, consuming fantasy media in any and all forms, and helping at the art markets of Eugene!
